Writing

As well as being an accomplished artist, Niel Bushnell is an award winning writer of books, comics and audio. He’s written novels for adults and children, as well as scripts for television, radio and film. Niel’s first novel, Sorrowline, won the Northern Promise Award in the 2011 Northern Writers’ Awards.

As a life-long science fiction fan, much of Niel’s work reflects his passion. He has written for licenced properties including Doctor Who and Blake’s 7, and created his own original science fiction series, The Arkship Saga, which runs to six novels, plus a collection of short stories.

Niel’s work also explores fantasy and supernatural themes, especially in his stand-alone novels, Altitude and Tobin Artichoke and the Queen of Heaven.

Niel has also written for radio and TV, and has had two comedy projects in development with the BBC and an independent production company.

In 2021, Niel’s original feature film script, The Waiting Room, won the Best Unproduced Script award at the LA Sci-Fi Film Festival.
